RRB Level 1 Group D The Ministry of Railways, Government of India has released the CEN No. 09/2025 notification for recruitment to various Level-1 posts under the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. This is a golden opportunity for candidates with 10th pass/ITI qualifications to secure a Central Government job in Indian Railways. A total of 22,195 vacancies have been announced across different Railway Zones.

Age Limit Overview for RRB Level-1

Age Limit Overview: The Railway Recruitment Board has clearly prescribed the age limit for all Level-1 posts under CEN 09/2025. Candidates must satisfy the minimum and maximum age criteria as on 01-01-2026. The general age range fixed by RRB is 18 to 33 years. Any applicant who is below 18 years or above 33 years on the crucial date will not be eligible. Age calculation will be done only based on the Date of Birth mentioned in the Matriculation certificate.

Crucial Date for Age Calculation: For this recruitment, the decisive date for determining age is 01 January 2026. All relaxations and eligibility will be counted with reference to this date only. Candidates must ensure that the date of birth entered in the online form matches exactly with the 10th class certificate. Any mismatch in DOB at later stages like DV or medical will lead to rejection without any further notice.

Lower Age Requirement: The minimum age prescribed for all categories is 18 years. This means the candidate must have completed 18 years on or before 01-01-2026. No relaxation is provided in the lower age limit under any circumstances. Even if a candidate lacks a few days to complete 18 years, the application will be treated as ineligible. Hence young aspirants must carefully verify their eligibility before applying.

Upper Age Limit for General Category: For Unreserved and EWS candidates, the upper age limit is 33 years as on 01-01-2026. Applicants born before the permitted date will not be allowed to participate in the recruitment process. RRB has made it clear that age once entered in the application cannot be modified later. Therefore general category aspirants must check the exact birth range provided in the official notice.

Age Relaxation for OBC-NCL: Candidates belonging to OBC Non-Creamy Layer are given an upper age relaxation of 3 years. Thus their maximum age becomes 36 years. To claim this benefit, applicants must possess a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued in the prescribed format. Without proper certificate during document verification, the relaxation will be cancelled and candidature will be treated under UR category only.

Age Relaxation for SC and ST: For Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, RRB has granted 5 years relaxation over the general upper limit. Hence SC/ST aspirants can apply up to 38 years of age. The caste certificate must be issued by a competent authority as per Government of India format. If the certificate is not produced at DV stage, the candidate will lose the relaxation and may become ineligible.

Ex-Servicemen Age Benefit: Ex-Servicemen are eligible for special relaxation based on length of military service. Generally 3 years plus service period is added to the upper limit for UR, 6 years for OBC and 8 years for SC/ST after deducting service years. Proper discharge book and certificates are mandatory to avail this benefit. Serving defence personnel with likely discharge within one year can also apply with NOC.

PwBD Age Relaxation: Persons with Benchmark Disabilities receive additional relaxation of 10 years for UR, 13 years for OBC, and 15 years for SC/ST. This concession is applicable only if the post is identified suitable for the particular disability. Candidates must upload and produce valid disability certificate issued by authorized medical board, otherwise the relaxation will not be considered at any stage.

Railway Employees and Special Cases: Serving railway employees with minimum three years service can apply up to 40 years for UR, 43 for OBC and 45 for SC/ST. Widowed or divorced women who have not remarried also get relaxation up to 35/38/40 years as per category. Apprentices trained in railway establishments receive age benefit equivalent to their training period subject to maximum limits specified in the notification.

Important Instructions Regarding DOB: RRB strictly follows the date of birth recorded in SSC/Matric certificate. No request for change of DOB will be accepted after registration. If any discrepancy is found between application and certificates, candidature will be cancelled even after selection. Candidates must therefore double-check the entered age details before final submission, as modification is not allowed later under any circumstances. RRB Level 1 Group D

Educational Qualification for RRB

Basic Educational Requirement: For all Level-1 posts under RRB CEN 09/2025, the minimum educational qualification prescribed is 10th class pass or ITI from a recognized Board or Institution. Candidates must possess this qualification on or before the closing date of application. Those who do not have the required certificate by that date are not eligible to apply. Railway has clearly stated that eligibility will not be considered on the basis of future results.

Recognition of Board / Institute: The qualification must be obtained from a Government recognized Board, NCVT/SCVT approved ITI, or authorized institution. Certificates issued by unrecognized institutes will not be accepted at any stage. Candidates must ensure that their school or ITI is approved by competent authority. During Document Verification, original certificates will be checked and any doubtful qualification will lead to rejection.

ITI and Course Completed Act Apprenticeship: For many posts, preference is given to candidates with ITI or Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA). The notification specifies that Diploma or Degree in Engineering will NOT be accepted in place of ITI/CCAA, unless the post specifically allows it. Therefore aspirants having higher qualifications must still possess the required ITI trade to become eligible.

Candidates Awaiting Results: RRB has strictly mentioned that candidates waiting for final examination results are NOT eligible to apply. The educational qualification must be completed and the result declared before the last date of online application. Provisional admission based on expected results is not permitted, and such applications will be rejected without refund.

Proof of Qualification: At the time of Document Verification, candidates must produce original mark sheets, provisional or final certificates showing the date of issue. If the certificate does not contain date of declaration, candidates must submit a letter from the Board/Institute confirming the result date. Without proper proof, the candidature will be cancelled even if the candidate has cleared CBT and PET.

Matriculation Details: Name, father name, mother name and date of birth entered in the application must match exactly with the 10th/SSC certificate. Any variation in spelling or initials will create problems at verification stage. Candidates having only ITI qualification may use details as per ITI certificate, but consistency across all documents is mandatory. RRB Level 1 Group D

Trade Specific Requirement: Some Level-1 posts like Assistant TRD, S&T, C&W etc., require specific ITI trades related to electrical, mechanical or signal fields. Candidates must check Post Parameter Table in Annexure-A before applying. Possessing unrelated trade will make the candidate ineligible for that particular post even if he/she is 10th pass.

Apprentices Trained in Railways: Candidates who have completed Apprenticeship training in Railway establishments are also eligible and get certain benefits. However, only those who have completed the course and possess valid certificate can claim this advantage. Graduate Apprentices are not considered equal to ITI/CCAA for Level-1 posts. Language and Medium: There is no restriction on the medium of education; certificates from any State Board, CBSE, ICSE or equivalent are accepted. However, documents must be produced in Hindi or English, or accompanied by authorized translation. Candidates should keep multiple photocopies of educational records for CBT, PET and DV stages. Consequences of False Claim: If at any stage it is found that a candidate does not actually possess the claimed qualification, his/her candidature will be cancelled immediately. Even after appointment, service can be terminated if educational documents are proved false. Therefore applicants are advised to apply only if they genuinely meet the educational standards prescribed by RRB.

Application Fee Details based on the official RRB

General Application Fee Structure: The Railway Recruitment Board has prescribed a fixed examination fee for all candidates applying under CEN 09/2025 Level-1 posts. The fee differs according to category. For General, OBC and EWS candidates the fee is ₹500, while for SC, ST, PwBD, Female, Minorities and EBC candidates the fee is ₹250. The fee must be paid through online mode only and no other payment method is accepted by RRB. RRB Level 1 Group D

Refund Policy for CBT Appeared Candidates: A major benefit in this recruitment is the refund of examination fee for candidates who actually appear in the CBT exam. Out of ₹500 paid by UR/OBC/EWS candidates, ₹400 will be refunded after deducting bank charges. For reserved categories who pay ₹250, the entire ₹250 will be refunded after CBT. Candidates who do not attend the exam will not get any refund.

Fee for Reserved Categories: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities and Economically Backward Class (EBC) have to pay only ₹250. This concession is provided to encourage participation from weaker sections. However, they must produce valid category certificates during Document Verification, otherwise the concession will be cancelled and candidature may be rejected.

Online Mode of Payment: RRB has allowed only online payment methods such as Internet Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card and UPI. Cash, demand draft, postal order or offline challan are not accepted. All service charges or transaction fees must be borne by the candidate. Application submitted without successful online payment will be treated as incomplete and rejected automatically. EBC Category Clarification: Economically Backward Class (EBC) is different from OBC and EWS. EBC candidates get only fee concession, not job reservation. To claim this benefit, candidates must possess valid income certificate, BPL card, Izzat MST or any poverty alleviation certificate issued before the closing date. Without these documents, the candidate will be treated as UR and concession will be withdrawn.

Aadhaar Linked Refund System: Refund of examination fee will be credited only to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the candidate. During application, Aadhaar validation is required and the linked account will be fetched automatically. If no account is linked, the candidate will be redirected to NPCI portal to complete linking. Responsibility of correct bank details lies completely with the applicant.

Non-Refundable Situations: RRB has clearly stated that fee will not be refunded if the application is rejected due to errors, multiple applications, ineligibility or non-submission. Candidates who fill wrong details, upload invalid documents or fail to pay within time will lose the fee. Therefore applicants must carefully review all information before final submission. Multiple Application Warning: Submitting more than one application to same or different RRBs is strictly prohibited. If duplicate applications are detected, all applications will be rejected and the fee paid will not be refunded. Candidates must apply to only one RRB zone and one registration is allowed per mobile and email.

Modification Fee: If a candidate wishes to correct details after submission, modification is allowed during 05-03-2026 to 14-03-2026 by paying an additional ₹250 modification fee each time. This amount is non-refundable. However details entered during “Create Account” and chosen Railway cannot be changed even after payment. RRB Level 1 Group D

Important Fee Guidelines: Candidates must keep payment receipt safely until recruitment is over. Fee once paid cannot be transferred or adjusted for any other exam. RRB will not entertain claims arising due to failed transactions, incorrect account linkage or bank issues. Applicants are advised to complete payment well before last date to avoid server rush and rejection.

RRB Level-1 Medical Standards Complete Details

Importance of Medical Fitness: All candidates shortlisted after CBT, PET and DV must undergo a Railway Medical Examination. Final appointment will be given only to those who meet the prescribed medical standards for the opted post. If a candidate is found medically unfit for the chosen post, no alternative post will be provided. RRB Level 1 Group D

Types of Medical Categories: Railways have classified posts under different medical categories such as:

  • A-2
  • A-3
  • B-1
  • C-1

Each post in Annexure-A is tagged with one of these standards. Candidates must check the medical category before giving post preference.

A-2 Medical Standard:

  • For posts under A-2 category
  • Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses
  • Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses
  • Must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision
  • This is a very strict category and mainly for safety related posts

A-3 Medical Standard:

  • For A-3 category posts
  • Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses (power not more than 2D)
  • Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6
  • Colour Vision and Night Vision tests are compulsory
  • Many electrical and operational posts fall under this category.

B-1 Medical Standard:

  • Requirements for B-1 category:
  • Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (power up to 4D)
  • Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6
  • Must pass Colour & Binocular vision tests
  • This is moderately strict and applicable to technical posts

C-1 Medical Standard:

  • For C-1 category:
  • Distant Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses
  • Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6
  • This category is for posts with comparatively less safety involvement

Lasik Surgery Rules:

  • Candidates who have undergone Lasik or any corrective eye surgery are NOT eligible for A-2 & A-3 posts.
  • Such candidates can be considered only for B-1 & C-1 posts as per Railway rules

PwBD Medical Standards: Medical fitness for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will be assessed as per Para 511(7) of IRMM. Only those disabilities which are marked suitable for a post in Annexure-A will be accepted. RRB Level 1 Group D

Medical Appeal Facility: If a candidate fails in initial medical test, he/she can apply for Medical Appeal by paying prescribed fee within the allowed time. The result of appeal will be final and binding.

Exams & Syllabus Details

Selection Process Overview: The recruitment process for RRB CEN 09/2025 Level-1 posts consists of several stages designed to test the overall ability of candidates. Initially all applicants must appear for the Computer Based Test conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards. Candidates who secure qualifying marks in CBT will be shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test. After PET, eligible candidates will be called for Document Verification and finally for Railway Medical Examination. Computer Based Test Structure: The Computer Based Test is the most important stage of this recruitment. The examination will be conducted in online mode at various centres across the country. Subjects Covered in CBT: The CBT syllabus mainly covers four major areas namely Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science and General Awareness on current affairs. The standard of questions will be generally up to 10th class level so that all eligible candidates can attempt the exam. These subjects are selected to judge the basic academic knowledge, logical thinking and awareness required for performing duties in Level-1 railway posts. Regular study of these areas is essential to score good marks.

Mathematics Portion Explanation: In the Mathematics part, questions are asked from number system, simplification, decimals, fractions, ratio and proportion, percentages, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, geometry and mensuration. Basic algebra and data interpretation are also included. The level is not very high but speed and accuracy play an important role. Candidates who practice previous papers and short tricks can easily secure high marks in this section.

Reasoning Ability Portion: General Intelligence and Reasoning section checks the mental ability of the applicant. Topics like analogies, classification, coding decoding, series completion, syllogism, blood relations, directions, statement and conclusion, non-verbal reasoning and puzzles are commonly asked. This section does not require memorization but needs continuous practice. Solving mock tests regularly will help candidates understand the pattern and improve logical thinking for the actual examination.

General Science Portion: The General Science part is based on Physics, Chemistry and Biology studied up to secondary level. Questions are asked on motion, electricity, heat, chemical reactions, acids and bases, periodic table, human body systems, diseases, nutrition and environment. Conceptual clarity is very important for this section. Candidates should revise their school science books and focus on basic principles rather than advanced topics to perform well in the CBT. General Awareness Portion: General Awareness aims to test the knowledge of current events and static subjects. Questions may come from Indian history, geography, polity, economy, sports, culture, important days, awards and railway related information. Daily reading of newspapers and monthly current affairs magazines will be very helpful. Physical Efficiency Test Details: After the CBT, candidates will be called for Physical Efficiency Test according to their merit. PET is only qualifying in nature and no marks are added to final score. The test generally includes running for a fixed distance within a prescribed time and lifting of weight to check physical capability required for field duties. Separate standards are fixed for male and female candidates. Those who fail in PET will not be considered for further stages. RRB Level 1 Group D

Normalisation and Shortlisting: If the CBT is conducted in multiple shifts, RRB will adopt a normalization method to balance the difficulty level of different sessions. Based on normalized marks, candidates will be shortlisted for PET roughly up to three times the number of vacancies. This ensures fairness among all applicants. Final Merit and Appointment: The final selection of candidates will depend on successful completion of all stages including CBT score, qualifying PET, document verification and medical fitness. Selection Process Details

Overall Selection Method: The selection for RRB Level-1 posts will be conducted through a systematic multi-stage process. Every candidate must pass each stage to move to the next level. The main stages include Computer Based Test, Physical Efficiency Test, Document Verification and Medical Examination. The Railway Recruitment Board will prepare merit lists at different stages and only eligible candidates will be called further. Mere submission of application does not guarantee selection unless all prescribed conditions are fulfilled.

Stage-1: Computer Based Test: The first and most important stage is the Computer Based Test. All eligible applicants will appear for this online examination. The CBT contains objective type questions and there will be negative marking of one-third mark for every incorrect answer. The purpose of CBT is to test academic knowledge and mental ability required for Level-1 railway duties. Performance in this test plays the key role in shortlisting candidates for the next stage.
