Age Limit Details:
Minimum Age Requirement: The minimum age for candidates applying to Undergraduate NTPC posts is 18 years. For Graduate NTPC posts, the same lower age limit of 18 years is applicable. This ensures that all candidates have attained adulthood before taking up responsibilities in Indian Railways. Thus, no candidate below 18 years will be considered eligible. (RRB NTPC)
Maximum Age for General Category: For both Graduate and Undergraduate NTPC posts, the maximum age limit is 36 years as on 01 January 2023. Candidates beyond this age are not eligible to apply, regardless of their qualification level. This age cap is kept to maintain a balance between youth employment and experience. Aspirants must carefully check their date of birth before applying. (RRB NTPC)
OBC Category Age Relaxation: Candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC-Non Creamy Layer) are given age relaxation. They can apply up to 3 years beyond the upper age limit. This means OBC candidates can apply till 39 years of age. This relaxation is in accordance with Government of India recruitment rules. (RRB NTPC)
SC/ST Category Age Relaxation: Applicants belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities get the maximum benefit. Their age relaxation extends up to 5 years over the general limit. Therefore, SC/ST candidates can apply up to 41 years of age. This policy ensures fair representation of marginalized communities. (RRB NTPC)
Age Relaxation for PwD Candidates: Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are provided additional age benefits under NTPC recruitment. For PwD candidates belonging to the General category, the maximum age is extended by 10 years. For PwD-OBC, the relaxation is 13 years, and for PwD-SC/ST, it is 15 years. This policy supports inclusivity in railway jobs. (RRB NTPC)
Ex-Servicemen Age Benefits: Ex-Servicemen are given a special relaxation due to their service to the nation. The age limit for them is extended depending on the length of military service plus an additional 3 years. However, the overall maximum limit should not cross government guidelines. This relaxation allows defense personnel to restart careers in railways. (RRB NTPC)
Age for Railway Staff & Quasi-Administrative Employees: Current railway employees and staff working in quasi-administrative offices like railway canteens or institutes are given a higher age limit. The relaxation is generally up to 40 years for General, 43 years for OBC, and 45 years for SC/ST employees. This helps existing workers upgrade to better posts within railways.(RRB NTPC)
Age for Widows, Divorced Women & Judicially Separated Women: Women candidates who are widows, divorced, or judicially separated and not remarried also get special consideration. They can apply up to 35 years (General), 38 years (OBC), and 40 years (SC/ST). This provision ensures equal employment opportunities for women under difficult circumstances. (RRB NTPC)
Age Calculation Reference Date: The crucial date for calculating the age of candidates is 01 January 2023. All candidates must check their date of birth as per their matriculation or equivalent certificate. Even a small difference in date can lead to disqualification. Hence, applicants are advised to double-check age eligibility before applying.
Importance of Age Criteria in Selection: Age limit is one of the most important eligibility factors for RRB NTPC 2025. Even if a candidate has the required qualifications but does not fall under the prescribed age criteria, they cannot participate in the recruitment. The Railway Board has made these rules to maintain fairness and equal chances for all aspirants. Candidates must plan their applications accordingly.
Application Fee Details:
General / OBC Candidates: Candidates belonging to the General (Unreserved) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) categories are required to pay an application fee of ₹500. This is applicable for both Graduate and Undergraduate posts. The payment can only be made online and is non-refundable except for certain refund provisions. (RRB NTPC)
SC / ST Candidates: Applicants who fall under the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories have a reduced application fee of ₹250. This concession ensures that candidates from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Women Candidates: All female candidates, regardless of their category, also need to pay only ₹250 as the application fee. This is a major relief for women applicants and promotes gender equality in the recruitment process. (RRB NTPC)
PwD Candidates (Persons with Disabilities): Candidates with disabilities (PwD) are also charged an application fee of ₹250. This amount is much lower than the general category fee to provide equal opportunities to differently-abled candidates. (RRB NTPC)
Ex-Servicemen: Ex-Servicemen who are applying for NTPC posts are also required to pay ₹250 only. This discounted fee acknowledges their service to the nation and encourages them to join the Indian Railways workforce after retirement. (RRB NTPC)
Fee Refund Policy: The RRB has introduced a fee refund system for candidates who appear in the Computer-Based Test (CBT). For candidates who paid ₹500, an amount of ₹400 will be refunded after they appear in the exam. For candidates who paid ₹250, the full amount will be refunded after appearing in the exam.
Mode of Payment: The application fee must be paid online only. Candidates can use Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI services. No offline payment such as Demand Draft, Money Order, or Cash will be accepted. (RRB NTPC)
Important Note: Candidates must ensure that the payment is successful before submitting the application form. In case of failed transactions, the amount will be automatically refunded by the bank within a few days. The application will not be considered valid without successful fee payment. (RRB NTPC)

The exam will have multiple-choice questions from subjects like General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning. The duration will be 90 minutes.
Computer Based Test (CBT – Stage 2): Candidates who qualify CBT-1 will be shortlisted for CBT-2. This test is more detailed and specific to the post applied for. It includes questions from Mathematics, General Awareness, Reasoning, and Current Affairs. The difficulty level of CBT-2 is higher compared to the first stage.
Normalization of Marks: Since RRB exams are conducted in multiple sessions, there may be slight variations in difficulty. To ensure fairness, the Railway Board applies the normalization process to equalize marks across different shifts. This helps maintain transparency in the selection process. (RRB NTPC)
Typing Skill Test: For posts like Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, and Junior Accounts Assistant, a Typing Skill Test is mandatory. Candidates must be able to type at least 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi. This test is qualifying in nature.
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): For certain posts like Station Master and Traffic Assistant, candidates must appear for a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). This test evaluates decision-making, logical thinking, and multitasking ability. Importantly, no relaxation in CBAT is provided for any category.
Document Verification (DV): Candidates who clear the required CBTs, skill tests, or aptitude tests are called for Document Verification. In this stage, all original certificates such as educational qualification, caste certificate, age proof, and identity documents are thoroughly checked. Failure to produce genuine documents leads to disqualification. (RRB NTPC)
Medical Examination: After document verification, shortlisted candidates must undergo a Medical Fitness Test conducted by Railway Medical Authorities. The standards vary depending on the post. For example, Station Master posts require high visual standards, while clerical posts may have relaxed norms. Only medically fit candidates are considered for final appointment. (RRB NTPC)
Final Merit List Preparation: The final merit list is prepared based on performance in CBT-2, skill tests (if applicable), and aptitude tests. Marks from CBT-1 are not counted in the final merit but are used only for shortlisting. Candidates who clear all stages and meet the medical standards are included in the merit list.
Reservation Policy Implementation: During the selection, RRB strictly follows the reservation policy of the Government of India. Vacancies are allotted to General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD, and Ex-Servicemen categories as per the rules. This ensures equal opportunities for candidates from all backgrounds. (RRB NTPC)
Appointment and Training: Candidates who are finally selected receive an official appointment letter from the Railway Recruitment Board.
